How to care for your battery
Proper battery care can extend your phone's lifespan by 1-2 years. Here's what you need to know.
Keep the charge between 20-80%
Experts recommend not charging to 100% and not letting it drop below 20%. This 'golden zone' puts the least strain on the battery.
Avoid full cycles (0-100%)
Every full cycle from 0% to 100% reduces battery capacity. It is better to charge more often, but for shorter periods.
Avoid heat
Heat is the battery's biggest enemy. Optimal temperature: 20-30°C.
- Do not charge your phone under a pillow or on a soft surface
- Do not charge in direct sunlight
- Remove the case while charging if the phone gets hot
Fast charging – in moderation
Fast charging is safe and does not damage the battery (2025 phones have built-in protections). However, when used regularly it generates more heat. Use fast charging only when you really are in a hurry.
Wireless charging – also safe
Wireless charging is not harmful, but it generates ~50% more heat than wired charging. For long-term battery health, wired charging is still better.
Use quality chargers
Cheap, uncertified chargers can damage the battery. Use original or certified (MFi, USB-IF) chargers.
For long-term storage – 50%
If you will not be using your phone for a long time, leave the battery charged at around 50%. Not 100% and not 0%.
Busting the myths
Truth
- ✓ Fast charging DOES NOT damage the battery (in modern phones)
- ✓ You can use your phone while it is charging
Myth
- ✕ There is NO NEED to 'calibrate' the battery (an old myth)
- ✕ There is NO NEED to discharge to 0% before charging
Frequently asked questions
Does fast charging damage the battery?
No, modern phones (2020 and later) have advanced protection systems. Fast charging is safe for everyday use. The phone itself regulates the charging speed and temperature.
Wireless or wired charging – which is better?
Wired charging is faster and more efficient (less energy is lost as heat). Wireless charging is more convenient, but it generates more heat. For long-term battery health, wired charging is slightly better.
How many watts of charger do I need?
It depends on the phone. iPhone supports up to 20-27W, Samsung Galaxy up to 25-45W, OnePlus/Xiaomi flagships up to 80-120W. Tip: a 20-30W charger is enough for most people and is universal.
