Description
This wooden STEM set lets children aged 8 and above build five working models: a hand-cranked music box, vibrating worm robot, hydraulic excavator, motorised Ferris wheel and pulley elevator.
Learning projects
- The music box demonstrates vibration and the conversion of mechanical movement into sound.
- The worm robot demonstrates vibration, friction, balance and mechanical movement.
- The excavator uses syringes and flexible tubes to demonstrate hydraulic pressure, force transfer and levers.
- The Ferris wheel demonstrates a belt drive, rotational movement, balance and gravity.
- The elevator uses a DC motor, rope and pulleys to demonstrate electrical circuits and controlled lifting.
Materials and contents
- Laser-cut non-toxic wood with metal and plastic components; the wooden parts may be painted or varnished.
- Includes parts for five separately packed models, battery holders, wired motors, music-box mechanism, gears, syringes, flexible tubes, connectors, rubber bands, wheels, metal axles, foam balls, decorative parts, glue, screws, screwdriver and assembly instructions.
- Three models require 2 × AA 1.5 V batteries; batteries are sold separately.
