What is the difference between a silicone and a plastic case?

A silicone case is soft and flexible, and it absorbs impact well. It grips in the hand, but it collects dust and yellows over time. A hard plastic (PC) case is thin and easy to keep clean, but it does not give under impact. For most people a TPU or hybrid case is the better compromise — it combines both.

How do I choose the right case?

Choose for the way you actually use the phone: if you drop it often, take a rugged case; if you want to keep the phone slim, TPU or silicone is enough; if you want to carry cards, pick a wallet case. Above all, check that the case is made for your exact phone model.

Does a case protect against drops?

Yes, though how much depends on the type. A thin silicone case keeps scratches away and helps with low falls. Rugged cases such as UAG or Spigen Tough Armor are drop-tested from 2–3 metres and give the most protection.

Why does a clear silicone case turn yellow?

UV light and the natural oils on your skin cause it. It is normal and cannot be prevented entirely. Tip: a darker colour or a clear TPU case yellows far less visibly.

The Speck Presidio Lux MagSafe case is shaped specifically for iPhone Air and features Ibis Pink finish with Dark Ibis and Kanom Green accents. Its slim dual-layer construction combines a rigid outer shell with an impact-absorbing inner layer. A soft-touch coating improves feel and is designed to resist everyday scratches. Speck states that the case was drop-tested from up to 13 ft (about 4 m), but a phone can still be damaged in a fall. Built-in magnets align compatible MagSafe chargers and accessories; charging speed and magnetic hold depend on the phone, charger and accessory. The antimicrobial treatment is limited to the case surface and is not a health-protection feature. According to the supplier packaging, the case contains 50% recycled plastic.
